For 51 years, we've presented musicals every summer, under the stars in the Oakland hills. We're grateful to our loyal audience, whose support has made that possible.

 

So many of you have told us how you first came to shows as children and now bring your own kids, or that you recently discovered Woodminster and plan to make us an annual tradition. We love to hear these stories and are so glad you're a part of the Woodminster family.

 

We need your help. Please help us continue to provide high quality, affordable musical theater. Help us to continue our important Kids Come Free program that carries a love of live musical theater to a new generation. Help us keep our wonderful historic facility safe and comfortable for everyone. Please help us stage our 2017 season and build a stable future.

  • How will we use your monetary gift?

    • To preserve one of Oakland’s finest cultural traditions, one that has brought a uniquely American art form to local audiences for 51 years

     

    • To open an historic Oakland venue to tens of thousands of audience members every season, and maintain this gem of an outdoor performance space for the community

     

    • To present quality musical theater right here in the East Bay

     

    • To provide free theater for local kids (thousands of children and teens attend for free each year)

     

    • To provide employment for professionals as well as experience for local aspiring performers

     

    • To award scholarship support to deserving young performers who are pursuing higher education

  • Special funding needs 2017

    New Lighting Equipment

    Over the last couple of years, we've run some special campaigns to upgrade specific parts of our sound and lighting systems, but we need to do more.  Keeping our technological equipment running is an ongoing challenge.

     

    New Customer Service Structures

    Thank you for your help last year as we built the new concessions booth.  We've almost finished paying for the materials, and as you know, all the labor was donated.  Next, we really need to replace the box office before that becomes unsafe for staff and volunteers.

     

    Jim Schlader Musical Theater Scholarship Fund

    Producer of Woodminster Summer Musicals since 1967, Jim was responsible for over 150 productions on the Woodminster stage.

     

    For more than 40 years, Jim Schlader produced the Woodminster Summer Musicals with a special interest in cultivating young talent in musical theater. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of young perfomers were advised by Jim to get further education and training. In his memory, and because of many generous contributions made in his name, his organization can now offer more concrete encouragement to members of the Woodminster company who are pursuing higher education.

     

    We began offering this award in 2010, and depending on donations, we continue to award Jim Schlader Musical Theater Awards every year we can to candidates pursuing higher education, who have demonstrated:

    • Talent in musical theatre performance and production;

    • Consistent contributions to the organization;

    • Positive attitude and accomplishments as team players.

    Kids Come Free

    Producers Associates hopes to encourage a love of live theatre in children and make it easier for families on a limited budget to attend together. So.... KIDS COME FREE to Woodminster Summer Musicals!  Since 1989, Woodminster Summer Musicals has offered free tickets to children and teens 16 and younger who are accompanying paying adults to any performance.

     

    We used to have a major corporate funder for this program, but since that donor has re-focused its efforts on science and math instead of arts, we have depended more and more on gifts from smaller corporate and philanthropic funders, and the generosity of individual donors who want to support access to professional theater for children and teens, especially those who come from lower income families.

    All benefits are cumulative.

    Donors at higher levels receive all the benefits from lower levels.

  • The Fine Print . . .

    Substitution – Woodminster will make every reasonable effort to provide the specific benefit described, but reserves the right, without notice and at its sole discretion, to modify a benefit or substitute a benefit of approximately equal value.

     

    Expiration – Benefits are valid for one season. The donation year cutoff changes slightly from year to year, but is usually about June 25th. If we receive your donation before the cutoff you will receive your benefits during the current season. If we receive your donation after the cutoff we may postpone some benefits to the following season. For example, if we receive your donation after the current program has been printed, we’ll list your name in a subsequent program. A few benefits may have specific cutoff dates. If a donation is received after a listed cutoff date, we do not offer a substitute benefit.

     

    Your name in the program – Your name will be listed in the program for at least one production. Donations will be listed as anonymous upon request.

     

    Free ticket exchanges – This only applies to classes of tickets that qualify for exchanges. Some classes of tickets do not qualify for exchanges. You cannot exchange tickets that are marked "No Exchanges."

     

    Concession coupons - Each coupon can be redeemed for a single item up to $2 in value at either concession stand. This applies only to the two concession booths operated by Woodminster. We have other food vendors who set up carts or tents inside the main entrance. They do not participate in this benefit program and will not honor these coupons.

     

    Free parking – The parking pass allows you to park 1 vehicle in the theater parking lots for 3 evenings this summer, 1 evening for each production. You must show the pass to the parking attendant to park for free. There is no replacement or reprint mechanism for the parking passes. If you lose the pass or leave it at home, you must pay for parking and you will not be reimbursed. This year’s passes expire at the end of this season.

     

    Valet Concessions – You tell us what you want at intermission and we’ll bring it to your seat. The valet service includes 6 free items per season from a Woodminster concession booth. We have other food vendors who setup carts or tents inside the main entrance. They do not participate in this benefit program and do not offer valet service or free items.

     

    Gift certificate for single tickets – The complimentary tickets may be used for any performance during the season. You will get the best seats available at the time you choose to redeem the certificate.

     

    Guaranteed parking space in lot 1 – Parking lot 1 is the lowest lot near the stage door. Please call the box office before 4pm on the day of the performance to reserve your space.

     

    Your name as a sponsor on the cover of the program – In consultation with Producers Associates, you will choose a specific aspect of a production you wish to sponsor – costumes, sets, the woodwind section, specific actors, etc. Your name will appear on the cover of the program as a sponsor.

     

    Gift certificate for season tickets – You will get the best seats available at the time you choose to redeem the certificate. Depending on availability, the seats may not be next to your regular seats, and we may not be able to give you the same seats for each production.

     

    Commemorative Plaque – We will place a commemorative plaque on the outside of the control booth acknowledging your donation.
