2019 season

Welcome to our 53rd Season at the historic Woodminster Amphitheater in Oakland's Joaquin Miller Park!

We are pleased to continue to bring all genres of musical theater to this beautiful outdoor stage for people of all ages to enjoy. This season we are producing three shows that will be great for all ages: Newsies, Billy Elliot, and Into the Woods.

Newsies | July 5-14

Inspired by the real-life “Newsboy Strike of 1899,” when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long strike. Timely and fresh, the fictionalized adaptation of Newsies addresses age-old themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices and David-versus-Goliath struggles as the young learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment.

Billy Elliot | August 2-11

Set in a northern English mining town, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy's struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Follow Billy's journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community, and changes his life forever.

Into the Woods | August 30-September 8

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child and set off on a journey to break a witch's curse; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
